LGBT stands for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and there are facilities which address the unique needs of these clients. Individuals who are LGBT can feel alone, not understood, and viewed as socially unwanted. This may be a very difficult or painful way to live, and leads many LGBT people to a life of drug abuse to alleviate these feelings. Someone that is LGBT may not feel at ease in a conventional rehabilitation facility amongst individuals who aren't experiencing the same challenges they may be experiencing within their lives. A LGBT program provides an environment that is free from judgment, where LGBT clients can feel totally comfortable and safe revealing to their peers and treatment counselors issues which should be resolved to be able to get well. Rehab counselors in a LGBT rehab will help clients repair relationships with their family, in the case their family disagree with their sexual preference as is usually the case. This circumstance is an extremely common trigger for substance abuse, and is also a good example of an issue that can be handled in treatment. LGBT clients often would like to be accepted within their lives, and rehab will help them accept themselves and create confidence so that they can lead a wholesome life free from alcohol and drugs.
