Dual diagnosis rehabs are programs which deliver treatment to handle both addiction and mental health concerns concurrently. Dual diagnosis is a very common circumstance for those involved with drug abuse, as individuals with mental health issues frequently self medicate with drugs and alcohol to to feel some kind of temporary respite from their disorder. In a dual diagnosis rehab, rehabilitation counselors can help people through a detailed rehab plan all geared towards restoring and replenishing mental, physical and emotional health while addressing alcohol and drug abuse concerns. Providing a safe environment is key so that dual diagnosis clients can be comfortable and remain undistracted from circumstances that may compromise their program and advancement. Rehabilitation counselors will work to identify environmental factors in the client's life including negative relationships or other things which need to be addressed in order for the individual to remain mentally stable and abstinen t once they depart dual diagnosis rehab. Dual diagnosis clients also benefit from behavioral rehabilitation which helps them develop more effective coping mechanisms so that they are able to better handle life situations well when they depart dual diagnosis rehab instead of turning to drugs as an inferior option.
