Individuals who want to maintain a certain amount of flexibility in their lives can take advantage of an outpatient rehab when they need rehab for drug or alcohol abuse. Outpatient rehab makes it possible for the rehab client to participate in rehab services without the commitment one would ordinarily have to agree to in an inpatient or residential alcohol and drug rehab program. This doesn't always work in the rehab client's favor however, particularly for those clients who need to address substantial drug abuse problems. So while an outpatient rehab might appear to be an expedient possibility, it isn't for everyone. Those that choose an outpatient rehab will usually show up at meetings and take part in therapy and treatment services part-time daily or a few days per week. This can be very helpful for those who have recently completed a more extensive inpatient or residential program as an effective aftercare or maintenance step, and someone with only a brief history of drug use which is usually a really small amount of clients. For an individual with more severe drug abuse and dependency problems, inpatient or residential alcohol and drug rehabilitation programs which offer treatment on a long-term basis will probably be the more effective rehabilitation option.
