People who are hearing impaired can appear isolated, lack motivation, and goalless because of the impairment. Firstly, detecting a drug and alcohol abuse problem among the hearing impaired is often a challenge, as these individuals may attempt to hide their problem as a result of social stigmas attached to drug use. However, drug and alcohol rehab counselors who provide rehab to hearing impaired individuals see the challenges these clients face. ASL rehab services are of course a necessity, as are treatment services which address the particular challenges that hearing impaired individuals face. Group therapy provides a forum for important peer support in order that treatment clients can know they are not on their own, and that there is hope to handle their challenge with alcohol and drugs. Individual therapy services can be more tailored for each individual to ensure their own personal challenges can be addressed in rehabilitation.
