Offering gender-specific rehab services has proven very helpful in situations where conventional rehabilitation settings have not meet expectations, such as coping with situations within a women's life which can be distinctive and traumatic. Such issues may pertain to sexual abuse, physical trauma, psychological abuse, eating disorders, one's family members and motherhood, or other significant issues that are specific to women. Research has revealed that women could also become involved in abusing drugs more easily than men, and so are more vulnerable to illness as a result of addiction issues than males consequently. Because of responsibilities in the home, women also tend to put off trying to find and receiving treatment, a situation which can lead to catastrophe. That said, treatment services for women are designed so that a women's needs are the concentration and priority. Similar to coed rehabs, drug rehabilitation facilities which provide treatment services to women help women through detoxification and withdrawal as a starting point. After this step, counselors help women concentrate on both common and gender-specific problems who have brought about their substance abuse. Women also may take advantage of the constructive support from other female peers, plus some facilities that offer rehabilitation services to women provide client beds for her young children.
