Offering gender-specific treatment services has shown to be worthwhile in circumstances where standard treatment facilities have not meet expectations, such as coping with situations within a women's life that are distinctive and distressing. Such concerns may relate to sexual abuse, physical abuse, psychological abuse, eating disorders, one's family and being a mother, or other serious issues that are specific to women. Research has shown that women also can get embroiled in drug abuse more readily than men, and so are more vulnerable to sickness due to drug abuse problems than males as a result. Because of responsibilities in the home, women also tend to postpone trying to find and undergoing treatment, a circumstance which can be a catalyst for disaster. That said, rehabilitation services for women are created to ensure a women's needs will be the concentration and priority. Much like coed centers, drug rehab programs that offer treatment services to women help women through detoxification and withdrawal as a first step. Following this step, counselors help women target both common and gender-specific concerns which may have brought about their drug or alcohol use. Women also enjoy the beneficial support from their female peers, and some facilities that offer rehabilitation services to women provide client beds for their kids.
