Offering gender-specific rehab services has shown to be very helpful in situations where traditional rehabilitation settings have not meet expectations, like coping with situations in the women's life which are unique and painful. Such difficulties may relate to sexual abuse, physical abuse, mental abuse, eating disorders, one's family and motherhood, and other serious issues that are specific to women. Research shows that women could also get involved in substance abuse more readily than men, and so are more predisposed to sickness due to dependency problems than males consequently. Because of obligations in their home, women also tend to put off looking for and receiving care for addiction, a circumstance which can lead to disaster. Being mindful of this, rehabilitation services for women are designed so that a women's needs are the focus and priority. Similar to coed rehabs, drug and alcohol rehab centers that provide rehab services to women help women through detox and withdrawal as a first step. Following this step, counselors help women concentrate on both common and gender specific concerns who have prompted their drug abuse. Women also utilize the beneficial support from other female peers, plus some centers that offer treatment services to women offer client beds for her children.
