Offering gender-specific rehab services has shown to be worthwhile in situations where conventional rehabilitation settings have not meet expectations, including coping with situations in a women's life which can be distinctive and distressing. Such issues may have to do with sexual abuse, physical trauma, mental abuse, eating disorders, one's family and being a mother, and other significant issues that are specific to women. Research has revealed that women also can get involved in drug abuse more easily than men, and so are more predisposed to illness because of drug abuse issues than males consequently. Because of obligations in their home, women also tend to postpone searching for and receiving treatment, a situation which can be a catalyst for catastrophe. That said, rehabilitation services for women are created to ensure that a women's needs would be the focus and priority. Similar to coed facilities, drug rehabilitation centers which offer rehab services to women help women through detoxification and withdrawal as a first step. After this step, counselors help women concentrate on both common and gender-specific problems who have prompted their drug abuse. Women also may take advantage of the beneficial support from their female peers, and some centers that offer treatment services to women provide client beds for her young children.
