Dual diagnosis rehabs are centers which provide treatment to address both mental health and addiction concerns concurrently. Dual diagnosis is a very prevalent situation for those involved with drug and alcohol abuse, as people with mental health disorders often self medicate with alcohol and drugs to experience some type of temporary relief from their disorder. Within a dual diagnosis rehab, rehab counselors will help individuals through a comprehensive rehab plan all geared towards restoring and replenishing mental, physical and emotional health while addressing drug abuse problems. Offering a secure setting is key to ensure dual diagnosis clients can feel relaxed and remain free from distraction from things which may cut across their program and progress. Rehab counselors will continue to work to spot environmental issues in the client's life such as negative people in their lives or other things which have to be addressed in order for the person to stay mentally stable and sober t once they leave dual diagnosis rehab. Dual diagnosis clients also reap the benefits of behavioral rehabilitation which helps them develop more effective coping mechanisms so they are able to better handle life situations more effectively after they leave dual diagnosis rehab rather than turning to alcohol and drugs as an inferior option.
