LGBT means lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and there are facilities which address the unique needs of these clients. People who are LGBT can feel alone, misunderstood, and seen as socially unwanted. This is sometimes a very hard and painful way to live, and leads many LGBT people to a life of drug use to numb these feelings. Someone who is LGBT might not feel comfortable inside a traditional rehab program amongst people who aren't experiencing the same problems they may be experiencing in their lives. A LGBT center provides an environment which can be totally free of judgment, where LGBT clients can feel totally comfortable and safe revealing to their peers and rehab counselors issues which need to be handled so that they can get better. Rehabilitation counselors in a LGBT rehab can help clients fix relationships with their loved ones, in the case their loved ones disagree with their sexual preference as is usually the case. This situation is an extremely common trigger for substance abuse, and it is an example of something could be handled in treatment. LGBT clients often would like to be accepted within their lives, and rehab will help them accept themselves and produce confidence to be able to lead a wholesome life free from alcohol and drugs.
