Offering gender-specific rehabilitation services has shown to be beneficial in circumstances where conventional rehabilitation facilities have not meet expectations, for example dealing with situations in the women's life which can be unique and painful. Such concerns may pertain to sexual abuse, physical abuse, mental abuse, eating disorders, one's family members and motherhood, and other significant issues that are specific to women. Research shows that women can also get involved in substance abuse more easily than men, and so are more vulnerable to illness as a consequence of drug abuse problems than males as a result. Because of responsibilities in the home, women also tend to postpone searching for and receiving care for addiction, a situation which can lead to catastrophe. That said, treatment services for women are created in order that a women's needs will be the concentration and priority. Just like coed facilities, drug and alcohol treatment facilities that offer treatment solutions to women help women through detoxification and withdrawal as a starting point. Following this step, counselors help women concentrate on both basic and gender-specific issues which may have prompted their drug or alcohol use. Women also benefit from the beneficial support from their female peers, and a few centers that offer rehabilitation services to women also provide client beds for their kids.
