Offering gender-specific rehabilitation services has shown to be very helpful in circumstances where standard treatment settings have fallen short, like coping with situations in the women's life which can be unique and traumatic. Such issues may have to do with sexual abuse, physical trauma, psychological abuse, eating disorders, one's family members and motherhood, and other significant issues that are specific to women. Studies show that women may also become involved in abusing drugs more readily than men, and therefore are more vulnerable to sickness as a consequence of dependency issues than males as a result. Due to responsibilities in their home, women also tend to put off seeking out and receiving care for addiction, a situation which can be a catalyst for catastrophe. Following this step, counselors help women focus on both general and gender-specific concerns who have induced their drug or alcohol use. Women also benefit from the beneficial support from their female peers, plus some centers that provide rehabilitation services to women offer client beds for their kids.
