Dual diagnosis rehabs are facilities which deliver rehabilitation to handle both addiction and mental health concerns simultaneously. Dual diagnosis is a very common circumstance for those involved in substance abuse, as those that have mental health problems often self medicate with alcohol and drugs to experience some type of short-term respite from their disorder. In a dual diagnosis rehab, rehab counselors will help men and women using a comprehensive rehabilitation plan all geared towards restoring and replenishing mental, emotional and physical health whilst dealing with alcohol and drug abuse problems. Offering a secure setting is key so that dual diagnosis clients can feel relaxed and remain free from distraction from things which could cut across their treatment plan and progress. Rehab counselors will continue to work to identify environmental issues in the client's life including negative relationships or other things which must be addressed in order for the person to remain mentally healthy and abstinen t whenever they leave dual diagnosis rehab. Dual diagnosis clients also benefit from behavioral rehab that helps them develop more effective coping mechanisms so that they are better able to handle life situations more proficiently when they leave dual diagnosis rehab as opposed to returning to alcohol and drugs as an inferior option.
