LGBT means lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and there are centers which address the unique needs of these clients. Those who are LGBT can often feel alone, misunderstood, and viewed as socially unwanted. This is often an extremely tough and painful existence, and leads many LGBT individuals to a lifestyle of substance abuse to numb this pain. Someone that is LGBT might not exactly feel relaxed inside a traditional rehab facility amongst people who aren't experiencing the same challenges they are experiencing in their lives. A LGBT center offers an environment which can be free from judgment, where LGBT clients can be completely comfortable and safe revealing to their peers and rehabilitation counselors problems which must be handled in order to get well. Rehab counselors in a LGBT rehab will help clients mend relationships with their loved ones, in the case their loved ones disagree with their sexual preference as is often the case. This situation is certainly a frequent trigger for drug use, and is a good example of something which could be handled in rehab. LGBT clients often would like to be accepted in their lives, and treatment will help them accept themselves and build confidence in order to lead a wholesome life without any alcohol and drugs.
