Offering gender-specific rehabilitation services has shown to be beneficial in situations where conventional treatment settings have fallen short, like dealing with situations within a women's life which are distinctive and distressing. Such issues may have to do with sexual abuse, physical abuse, mental abuse, eating disorders, one's family and being a mother, or other serious issues which can be specific to women. Research has revealed that women could also get embroiled in drug abuse more easily than men, and so are more vulnerable to illness due to addiction problems than males as a result. Because of duties in their home, women also tend to postpone looking for and undergoing treatment, a situation which can be a catalyst for disaster. That said, rehab services for women are created to ensure that a women's needs are the focus and priority. Comparable to coed programs, drug and alcohol treatment programs which offer treatment services to women help women through detox and withdrawal as a first step. After this step, counselors help women target both standard and gender specific issues which may have brought on their drug abuse. Women also benefit from the constructive support from other female peers, and a few programs which offer rehabilitation services to women provide client beds for their kids.
