Individuals who want to maintain some flexibility within their lives can engage in an outpatient rehab if they need treatment for substance abuse. Outpatient rehab makes it possible for the treatment client to take part in treatment services without the commitment one would ordinarily have to consent to in an inpatient or residential drug treatment facility. This doesn't often work in the treatment client's favor however, particularly for those individuals who need to resolve substantial substance abuse issues. So although an outpatient rehab might appear to be a convenient option, it isn't for everyone. Those who do decide on an outpatient rehab will usually attend meetings and be a part of counseling and treatment services on a part-time basis on a daily basis or several days per week. This is helpful for individuals who have just completed a far more comprehensive inpatient or residential program as an effective aftercare or maintenance step, or for someone with only a short history of drug abuse which is really a really small percentage of clients. For an individual with more severe drug abuse and dependency issues, inpatient or residential drug and alcohol rehab programs which offer rehabilitation over a long-term basis will be the more advantageous treatment option.
