Dual diagnosis rehabs are programs which deliver rehab to deal with both addiction and mental health concerns at the same time. Dual diagnosis is a very prevalent situation for those involved in drug and alcohol abuse, as people who have mental health disorders frequently self medicate with alcohol and drugs to to feel some kind of short-term respite from their disorder. Inside a dual diagnosis rehab, rehabilitation counselors will help people through a comprehensive rehabilitation plan all aimed at restoring and stabilizing mental, emotional and physical health while dealing with drug abuse concerns. Providing a secure setting is key so that dual diagnosis clients can feel at ease and remain free from distraction from things that could compromise their program and advancement. Rehab counselors will continue to work to identify environmental factors in the client's life including negative people in their lives or other things that need to be addressed in order for the person to be mentally stable and sober t once they leave dual diagnosis rehab. Dual diagnosis clients also benefit from behavioral treatment that helps them develop far better coping methods so they are better able to handle life situations better after they leave dual diagnosis rehab as opposed to turning to alcohol and drugs as a possible option.
