Dual diagnosis rehabs are centers which deliver treatment to address both addiction and mental health issues concurrently. Dual diagnosis is a very prevalent situation for people involved in drug and alcohol abuse, as people with mental health disorders often self medicate with drugs and alcohol to experience some type of temporary respite from their disorder. In a dual diagnosis rehab, rehab professionals can help people using a detailed rehab plan all geared towards restoring and replenishing mental, emotional and physical health while also addressing drug abuse concerns. Providing a safe and secure setting is vital to ensure that dual diagnosis clients can feel relaxed and remain free from distraction from things which may cut across their treatment plan and advancement. Treatment counselors will continue to work to recognize environmental issues in the client's life including negative relationships or any other things which have to be addressed in order for the individual to be mentally healthy and abstinen t when they depart dual diagnosis rehab. Dual diagnosis clients also benefit from behavioral rehab which helps them develop more effective coping mechanisms so they are better able to deal with life situations better if they depart dual diagnosis rehab as opposed to returning to alcohol and drugs as an inferior option.
