Medicare is a type of medical health insurance created by the federal government for senior citizens, as well as individuals with certain disabilities and diseases. If an individual who has Medicare needs treatment for cases of substance abuse, their treatment will be either covered in full by their Medicare health insurance or to a significant extent. The only exception is, the person must receive treatment from a drugs and alcohol detox facility which accepts Medicare. Before the person will be allowed to start rehab, they may also have to see their medical doctor who must declare that rehab services are medically needed, and the physician will usually approve what type of rehabilitation the individual will do. Medicare Part An and Part B cover several types of rehab services. Part A pays for an inpatient stay in a Medicare accepted facility when the individual needs to be in a hospital because of their problem, along with the costs that they will have to pay for personally are identical to every other stay in a hospital. Part B will partially cover outpatient treatment in the Medicare accepted program, and the individual will need to cover whatever Medicare Part B doesn't pay for with supplemental insurance or they will have to self pay.
