Dual diagnosis rehabs are programs which provide rehabilitation to address both addiction and mental health concerns concurrently. Dual diagnosis is an extremely common circumstance for individuals involved in drug and alcohol abuse, as people with mental health issues frequently medicate themselves with alcohol and drugs to to feel some sort of short-term respite from their disorder. Rehabilitation counselors will work to identify environmental factors in the client's life such as negative people in their lives or other things that should be addressed in order for the individual to be mentally healthy and sober t after they leave dual diagnosis rehab. Dual diagnosis clients also benefit from behavioral treatment which will help them develop more efficient coping methods so that they are better able to deal with life situations better after they leave dual diagnosis rehab rather than returning to drugs as an inferior option.
