Hearing impaired persons tend to have an increased likelihood of drug abuse issues because of their impairment, and rehabilitation services should be available to them which serves their circumstances. Those who are hearing impaired can appear isolated, lack motivation, and be without goals because of their impairment. Some hearing impaired individuals then elect to self medicate with drugs or alcohol to numb this pain and experience a temporary escape from the emotional and psychological challenges that come with having this handicap in daily life.
