Being diagnosed with HIV/AIDS may trigger substance abuse, or risky sexual conduct due to drug use may have caused the individual to contract the sickness. People who have HIV/AIDS, either as a result of their substance abuse or as a pre-existing condition prior to their drug abuse problem, frequently require treatment services tailored to meet their specific needs and challenges. Many of these challenges are physical in nature, because of the fact that drug users with HIV/AIDS rarely care for themselves and take the proper medicines they need to maintain their own health. Consequently, these individuals arrive to treatment in very poor health and this will have to be handled as a priority whilst addressing other crucial concerns. Besides the obvious necessity to deliver medical services while in rehabilitation, people who have HIV/AIDS should also tackle more deeply rooted issues which brought about their drug or alcohol use. Often, individuals have circumstances in their lives which are strictly environmental which may have caused them to turn to drugs or alcohol, including oppressive conditions within their lives or detrimental relationships. These are the issues which treatment counselors will target as part of HIV/AIDS treatment services.
