Offering gender-specific treatment services has proven worthwhile in circumstances where traditional treatment settings have fallen short, like coping with situations in the women's life that are unique and distressing. Such concerns may pertain to sexual abuse, physical trauma, psychological abuse, eating disorders, one's family members and being a mother, or another serious issues that are specific to women. Research has shown that women can also get involved in drug use more easily than men, and so are more predisposed to sickness because of addiction problems than males as a result. Due to duties in their home, women also tend to postpone searching for and receiving treatment, a circumstance which can lead to catastrophe. That said, rehab services for women are designed so that a women's needs will be the concentration and priority. Similar to coed programs, drug and alcohol treatment centers which offer treatment services to women help women through detoxification and withdrawal as a starting point. After this step, counselors help women focus on both standard and gender-specific problems which may have induced their substance abuse.
