Offering gender-specific treatment services has shown to be beneficial in circumstances where traditional treatment settings have not meet expectations, such as dealing with situations inside a women's life which can be unique and traumatic. Such difficulties may pertain to sexual abuse, physical abuse, psychological abuse, eating disorders, one's family and motherhood, and other serious issues which can be specific to women. Research has shown that women could also become involved in drug use more readily than men, and so are more vulnerable to illness because of addiction issues than males consequently. Because of responsibilities in the home, women also tend to put off trying to find and receiving care for addiction, a situation which can be a catalyst for disaster. Being mindful of this, rehabilitation services for women are created so that a women's needs would be the concentration and priority. Much like coed programs, drug rehab programs which offer rehabilitation solutions to women help women through detoxification and withdrawal as a starting point. After this step, counselors help women focus on both common and gender specific concerns who have triggered their substance abuse. Women also benefit from the positive support from other female peers, plus some centers that offer rehabilitation services to women also provide client beds for her young children.
