Individuals who want to maintain some flexibility in their lives can engage in an outpatient rehab should they need rehabilitation for substance abuse. Outpatient rehab allows for the rehabilitation client to participate in rehab services with the same commitment you might ordinarily have to agree to within an inpatient or residential drug and alcohol rehab center. This doesn't often work in the rehabilitation client's favor however, specifically those individuals who need to address substantial drug abuse problems. So even though an outpatient rehab might appear to be a convenient option, it isn't for everyone. Those that decide on an outpatient rehab will usually take part in meetings and take part in counseling and rehabilitation services part-time every day or several days per week. This is very helpful for those who have just completed an even more extensive inpatient or residential program as a good aftercare or maintenance step, or for someone with just a brief history of drug abuse which is really a really small amount of clients. For somebody with more significant addiction and dependency issues, inpatient or residential alcohol and drug treatment programs that provide treatment on a long-term basis will probably be the more effective treatment option.
