Offering gender-specific rehabilitation services has shown to be beneficial in circumstances where standard treatment settings have fallen short, including coping with situations in the women's life which are distinctive and painful. Such concerns may relate to sexual abuse, physical abuse, mental abuse, eating disorders, one's family and being a mother, or any other significant issues that are specific to women. Research shows that women also can become involved in drug abuse more readily than men, and therefore are more predisposed to illness because of drug abuse problems than males consequently. Due to duties in their home, women also tend to postpone trying to find and undergoing treatment, a circumstance which can be a catalyst for disaster. With this in mind, rehab services for women are designed to ensure a women's needs are the concentration and priority. Much like coed rehabs, alcohol and drug rehab programs which provide rehab services to women help women through detox and withdrawal as a first step. After this step, counselors help women give attention to both general and gender specific problems which may have brought about their substance abuse. Women also may take advantage of the beneficial support from other female peers, plus some programs which offer treatment services to women also provide client beds for her children.
