A group home for a person who has been involved in alcohol and drug abuse is a facility which offers continual support and assistance for people in recovery. A group home is typically for troubled youth, but there are also group homes for folks with a mental health problem or who are encountering behavioral difficulties for example. As opposed to sending those who are struggling with drug abusedrug use or recovering from drug abuse to an orphanage, asylum or any other similar facility, a group home may help offer an appropriate environment to help individuals maintain stability inside their lives and still have counsel and assistance within reach around the clock. Residents in the group home could be taking part in treatment services during residence, or could possibly be taking actions to get their life setup outside of the group home to enable them to at one point live independently outside of the group home. For example, a troubled youth who may have been in recovery or has recovered from substance abuse can try to get their GED or obtain work. A group home is definitely not a long-term or permanent solution, but it's a feasible short-term option for individuals who want to get their lives back together.
