LGBT stands for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and there are facilities which address the unique needs of these clients. Those who are LGBT can feel alone, not understood, and seen as socially unwanted. This may be a very difficult and painful existence, and leads many LGBT individuals to a lifestyle of drug use to numb this pain. Someone that is LGBT may not feel comfortable within a traditional rehabilitation program amongst individuals who aren't experiencing the same challenges they may be experiencing in their lives. A LGBT facility offers an environment which can be free from judgment, where LGBT clients can be completely safe and comfortable revealing to their peers and rehab counselors problems which should be resolved to enable them to get better. Rehabilitation counselors within a LGBT rehab will help clients fix relationships with their family members, in case their family disagree with their sexual choice as is often the case. This situation is definitely a common trigger for drug abuse, and is a good example of an issue that will be handled in rehabilitation. LGBT clients often just want to be accepted within their lives, and treatment will help them accept themselves and build confidence in order to lead a wholesome life clear of drugs and alcohol.
