Individuals who would like to maintain some flexibility within their lives can take advantage of an outpatient rehab when they need treatment for substance abuse. Outpatient rehab will allow for the rehabilitation client to participate in rehab services with the same commitment one would usually have to agree to within an inpatient or residential drug and alcohol rehabilitation center. This doesn't always work in the rehab client's favor however, particularly for those clients who need to address significant substance abuse issues. So while an outpatient rehab may seem like a convenient possibility, it isn't for everyone. People that decide on an outpatient rehab will generally take part in meetings and take part in counseling and rehabilitation services on a part-time basis daily or several days a week. This is very helpful for those who have recently completed a more thorough inpatient or residential program as an effective aftercare or upkeep step, or for someone with just a brief history of substance abuse which is usually a really small amount of clients. For somebody with more serious addiction and dependency problems, inpatient or residential drug rehab centers that provide rehab on a long-term basis will probably be the more beneficial rehab alternative.
