Offering gender-specific rehabilitation services has shown to be very useful in circumstances where traditional treatment settings have not meet expectations, such as dealing with situations in the women's life which can be distinctive and painful. Such issues may have to do with sexual abuse, physical trauma, psychological abuse, eating disorders, one's family and being a mother, and other really serious issues which are particular to women. Research shows that women also can get embroiled in drug use more readily than men, and so are more predisposed to illness as a result of drug abuse issues than males because of this. Because of responsibilities in their home, women also tend to postpone seeking out and undergoing treatment, a circumstance which can lead to disaster. With this in mind, rehabilitation services for women are created so that a women's needs will be the focus and priority. Much like coed programs, alcohol and drug rehabilitation programs that provide rehab solutions to women help women through detoxification and withdrawal as a first step. After this step, counselors help women concentrate on both general and gender specific problems which may have triggered their drug abuse. Women also utilize the constructive support from other female peers, and some facilities which offer rehab services to women also provide client beds for her kids.
