LGBT represents lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and there are facilities which address the unique needs of these clients. People who are LGBT can feel alone, misunderstood, and seen as socially depraved. This is often a very difficult and painful way to live, and leads many LGBT individuals to a lifestyle of drug abuse to numb these feelings. Somebody that is LGBT might not feel comfortable within a traditional treatment facility amongst people who aren't experiencing the same challenges they are experiencing of their lives. A LGBT program provides an environment which can be free of judgment, where LGBT clients can be completely safe and comfortable divulging to their peers and rehab counselors issues which must be handled to enable them to get well. Rehab counselors in a LGBT rehab will help clients repair relationships with their loved ones, in the event their family disagree with their sexual preference as is usually the case. This situation is definitely a common trigger for abusing drugs, and it is a good example of an issue that would be handled in rehab. LGBT clients often only want to be accepted within their lives, and treatment will help them accept themselves and create confidence to enable them to lead a wholesome life free of drugs and alcohol.
