Offering gender-specific rehabilitation services has shown to be worthwhile in situations where traditional treatment settings have fallen short, for example coping with situations in the women's life which are unique and traumatic. Such concerns may pertain to sexual abuse, physical trauma, mental abuse, eating disorders, one's family and motherhood, or other significant issues that are specific to women. Research has shown that women can also become involved in drug use more easily than men, and so are more vulnerable to sickness as a consequence of addiction problems than males consequently. Because of duties in their home, women also tend to put off searching for and receiving care for addiction, a situation which can be a catalyst for catastrophe. That said, treatment services for women are created so that a women's needs will be the focus and priority. Just like coed facilities, alcohol and drug rehab facilities that offer rehab solutions to women help women through detoxification and withdrawal as a starting point. After this step, counselors help women focus on both general and gender specific concerns which may have induced their drug abuse. Women also may take advantage of the beneficial support from other female peers, plus some centers which offer rehabilitation services to women offer client beds for their young children.
