Offering gender-specific treatment services has shown to be worthwhile in situations where traditional treatment settings have not meet expectations, for example dealing with situations in the women's life that are unique and painful. Such issues may pertain to sexual abuse, physical abuse, psychological abuse, eating disorders, one's family members and motherhood, or other serious issues that are specific to women. Studies show that women could also get involved in abusing drugs more easily than men, and so are more vulnerable to illness as a result of addiction issues than males because of this. Because of duties in their home, women also tend to postpone trying to find and receiving care for addiction, a circumstance which can be a catalyst for catastrophe. That said, rehab services for women are designed to ensure that a women's needs will be the concentration and priority. After this step, counselors help women target both general and gender-specific problems who have brought on their drug or alcohol use.
