Offering gender-specific rehab services has shown to be worthwhile in circumstances where conventional rehabilitation facilities have not meet expectations, for example coping with situations within a women's life which can be unique and distressing. Such difficulties may pertain to sexual abuse, physical trauma, psychological abuse, eating disorders, one's family and being a mother, and other serious issues that are specific to women. Research has shown that women could also get involved in substance abuse more easily than men, and therefore are more predisposed to sickness as a result of addiction issues than males consequently. Because of obligations in their home, women also tend to postpone looking for and receiving treatment, a situation which can lead to disaster. Being mindful of this, treatment services for women are designed to ensure a women's needs are the focus and priority. Just like coed programs, drug and alcohol treatment programs which offer treatment solutions to women help women through detox and withdrawal as a starting point. Following this step, counselors help women give attention to both common and gender-specific issues which may have induced their drug abuse. Women also may take advantage of the beneficial support from other female peers, and some programs that offer rehabilitation services to women also provide client beds for her children.
