Individuals who would like to maintain some flexibility in their lives can engage in an outpatient rehab should they need rehab for substance abuse. Outpatient rehab makes it possible for the rehabilitation client to participate in rehab services with the same commitment one would usually have to consent to within an inpatient or residential drug rehabilitation program. This doesn't always work in the treatment client's favor however, particularly for those individuals who need to address significant drug abuse problems. So although an outpatient rehab may seem like an opportune possibility, it isn't for everybody. People who choose an outpatient rehab will usually show up at meetings and be a part of counseling and rehabilitation services on a part-time basis each day or several days a week. This is very helpful for those who have just completed a much more extensive inpatient or residential program as a good aftercare or maintenance step, and for someone with only a short history of drug use which is really a very small percentage of clients. For a person with more significant drug abuse and dependency problems, inpatient or residential drug and alcohol treatment facilities which offer rehabilitation on a long-term basis will be the more beneficial rehab option.
