Being diagnosed with HIV/AIDS may trigger substance abuse, or dangerous sexual behavior because of substance abuse may have caused the individual to contract the illness. Individuals who have HIV/AIDS, either as a result of their drug abuse or as a pre-existing condition before their drug use problem, frequently require rehabilitation services tailor-made to meet their specific needs and challenges. A few of these problems are physical in nature, because of the fact that drug users with HIV/AIDS rarely care for themselves and take the proper medicines they need to preserve their own health. Consequently, they arrive to rehabilitation in very poor health and this will have to be handled as a priority whilst dealing with other critical concerns. In addition to the obvious requirement to provide medical services during treatment, individuals with HIV/AIDS will also need to deal with deeper problems which prompted their alcohol or drug use. Frequently, individuals have conditions within their lives that are purely environmental which may have triggered them to turn to alcohol or drugs, such as oppressive situations in their lives or damaging relationships. These are the issues which rehabilitation counselors will give attention to in HIV/AIDS rehab services.
