LGBT is short for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and there are programs which address the unique needs of these clients. People who are LGBT can often feel alone, not understood, and seen as socially unwanted. This is often a very difficult or painful way to live, and leads many LGBT people to a life of drug use to numb this pain. Somebody who is LGBT may not feel safe in a conventional treatment program amongst people who aren't experiencing the same problems they are experiencing of their lives. A LGBT center provides an environment that is free from judgment, where LGBT clients can feel completely safe and comfortable revealing to their peers and rehabilitation counselors issues which have to be handled in order to recover. Treatment counselors within a LGBT rehab will help clients mend relationships with their loved ones, in the event their family disagree with their sexual choice as is often the case. This situation is certainly a common trigger for abusing drugs, and is an illustration of a thing that will be resolved in rehabilitation. LGBT clients often only want to be accepted within their lives, and rehab will help them accept themselves and produce confidence to be able to lead a healthy life free of alcohol and drugs.
