Being diagnosed with HIV/AIDS may trigger drug use, or risky sexual behavior due to substance abuse may have caused the individual to contract the illness. Individuals who have HIV/AIDS, either due to their substance abuse or as a pre-existing condition prior to their drug abuse issue, often require rehab services tailor-made in order to meet their particular demands and challenges. Many of these problems are physical in nature, because of the fact that drug users with HIV/AIDS almost never care for themselves and take the proper medications they need to preserve their own health. As a result, they arrive to rehab in very poor health and this will have to be addressed as a priority while addressing other critical issues. In addition to the obvious requirement to offer medical services whilst in rehabilitation, people with HIV/AIDS will also need to deal with more deeply rooted problems which brought about their drug or alcohol use. Usually, people have conditions within their lives that happen to be purely environmental which may have caused them to turn to alcohol or drugs, such as oppressive circumstances in their lives or negative relationships. These are the issues which rehab counselors will concentrate on in HIV/AIDS rehabilitation services.
