Being diagnosed with HIV/AIDS may trigger substance abuse, or dangerous sexual behavior as a result of substance abuse may have caused to contract the disease. People who have HIV/AIDS, either on account of their drug abuse or as a pre-existing condition just before their substance abuse issue, typically require treatment services tailored in order to meet their specific needs and challenges. Many of these problems are physical in nature, due to the fact that drug users with HIV/AIDS rarely look after themselves and take the proper medications they need to preserve their own health. Therefore, these individuals arrive to rehab in very poor health and this will have to be addressed as a priority while also dealing with other important concerns. In addition to the obvious requirement to offer medical solutions during treatment, those that have HIV/AIDS will also need to address more deeply rooted problems which prompted their alcohol or drug use. Frequently, people have circumstances within their lives that are strictly environmental which may have triggered them to turn to drugs or alcohol, including oppressive circumstances within their lives or damaging relationships. These are the issues which rehabilitation counselors will give attention to in HIV/AIDS treatment services.
