Offering gender-specific rehab services has shown to be beneficial in circumstances where conventional rehab settings have fallen short, for example coping with situations within a women's life which can be unique and traumatic. Such issues may have to do with sexual abuse, physical abuse, mental abuse, eating disorders, one's family and being a mother, or any other really serious issues which are specific to women. Research has revealed that women may also become involved in drug use more easily than men, and therefore are more predisposed to sickness because of dependency issues than males consequently. Because of obligations in their home, women also tend to put off looking for and undergoing treatment, a situation which can lead to disaster. With this in mind, treatment services for women are created so that a women's needs are the focus and priority. Similar to coed facilities, drug rehabilitation programs which provide rehab solutions to women help women through detox and withdrawal as a first step. After this step, counselors help women target both basic and gender specific concerns who have brought on their drug abuse. Women also benefit from the beneficial support from their female peers, and a few centers that provide treatment services to women offer client beds for her young children.
