Being diagnosed with HIV/AIDS may set off drug use, or risky sexual conduct due to drug abuse might have caused the person to contract the sickness. Individuals who have HIV/AIDS, either as a result of their substance abuse or as a pre-existing problem prior to their substance abuse issue, often require treatment services tailored to meet their specific demands and problems. Many of these problems are physical in nature, due to the fact that drug users with HIV/AIDS rarely take care of themselves and take the proper medications they need to maintain their own health. Because of this, these individuals arrive to rehab in very poor health and this will have to be handled as a priority whilst dealing with other critical issues. Aside from the obvious requirement to deliver medical services during rehabilitation, people with HIV/AIDS will also need to tackle more deeply rooted problems which prompted their drug or alcohol use. Usually, individuals have circumstances within their lives that are purely environmental which may have caused them to turn to alcohol or drugs, including oppressive conditions in their lives or damaging relationships. These are the concerns which treatment counselors will concentrate on as part of HIV/AIDS rehab services.
