A group home for somebody who has been involved in alcohol and drug abuse is a place which provides continual support and assistance for those in recovery. A group home is typically for troubled youth, but in addition there are group homes for folks with a mental health problem or who are encountering behavioral problems for example. As opposed to sending individuals who are struggling with drug abusedrug use or recovering from drug abuse to an orphanage, asylum and other similar facility, a group home will help provide an appropriate environment to help individuals sustain stability within their lives and have counsel and support within reach 24/7. Residents in a group home could be taking part in treatment services during residence, or could be taking steps to get their life setup outside of the group home so that they can at some time live independently away from the group home. For example, a troubled youth who may have been in recovery or has recovered from drug abusedrug use can try to get their GED or acquire employment. A group home is not necessarily a long-term or permanent option, but it is a practical short-term option for individuals who are trying to get their lives back together again.
