A group home for anyone who has been involved in drug and alcohol abuse is a facility which offers continual support and help for people in recovery. A group home is usually for troubled adolescents, but there are also group homes for people with a mental health problem or who are encountering behavioral trouble for example. As an alternative to sending individuals who are experiencing substance abuse or recovering from drug abuse to an orphanage, asylum or other similar facility, a group home may help offer an acceptable environment to help individuals maintain stability in their lives and also have counsel and assistance within reach 24/7. People who reside inside a group home may be involved in rehabilitation services during residence, or could be taking measures to get their life setup outside the group home to be able to at one point live independently away from the group home. For example, a troubled youth that has been in recovery or has recovered from substance abuse can work on getting their GED or acquire employment. A group home is not necessarily a long-term or permanent solution, yet it's a practical short term option for individuals who want to get their lives back together.
