Dual diagnosis rehabs are programs which deliver rehab to deal with both mental health and addiction concerns concurrently. Dual diagnosis is an extremely common situation for individuals involved with drug and alcohol abuse, as people who have mental health issues often self medicate with drugs and alcohol to experience some form of temporary relief from their disorder. In a dual diagnosis rehab, treatment professionals will help people using a comprehensive rehabilitation plan all directed at restoring and stabilizing mental, emotional and physical health as well as addressing drug abuse concerns. Providing a safe setting is essential so that dual diagnosis clients can be at ease and remain free from distraction from things which may compromise their program and advancement. Rehabilitation counselors will continue to work to identify environmental factors in the client's life such as negative relationships or other things which must be addressed in order for the individual to remain mentally healthy and sober t after they leave dual diagnosis rehab. Dual diagnosis clients also reap the benefits of behavioral treatment that helps them develop more effective coping methods so that they are able to better deal with life circumstances well after they leave dual diagnosis rehab rather than returning to alcohol and drugs as an inferior answer.
