Offering gender-specific treatment services has proven worthwhile in situations where conventional treatment facilities have not meet expectations, such as dealing with situations in the women's life which can be unique and painful. Such issues may relate to sexual abuse, physical abuse, psychological abuse, eating disorders, one's family and being a mother, and other significant issues which can be specific to women. Studies show that women could also become involved in drug use more easily than men, and are more predisposed to sickness due to dependency problems than males consequently. Because of duties in the home, women also tend to postpone trying to find and undergoing treatment, a circumstance which can be a catalyst for catastrophe. With this in mind, rehabilitation services for women are created so that a women's needs are the focus and priority. Much like coed programs, drug rehab programs which offer rehabilitation services to women help women through detoxification and withdrawal as a first step. Following this step, counselors help women target both basic and gender specific concerns which may have triggered their drug or alcohol use.
