Hearing impaired men and women generally have an elevated chance of substance abuse issues due to their impairment, and rehab services must be at hand which cater to their needs. Individuals who are hearing impaired can feel alone, lack motivation, and goalless due to their impairment. In the first place, detecting an alcohol and drug abuse problem among the hearing impaired is usually a challenge, because these individuals may attempt to hide their issue because of social stigmas that come with substance abuse. Nonetheless, drug and alcohol rehabilitation counselors who provide rehabilitation to hearing impaired individuals see the challenges these clients face. ASL rehabilitation services are of course a necessity, as well as treatment services which address the unique challenges that hearing impaired individuals encounter. Group therapy offers a venue for important peer interactions so that rehabilitation clients can know that they are not on their own, and that there's hope to handle their challenge with drugs and alcohol.
