Being diagnosed with HIV/AIDS may trigger substance abuse, or risky sexual conduct as a result of abusing drugs could have caused the individual to contract the illness. Individuals who have HIV/AIDS, either as a result of their drug use or as a pre-existing condition just before their drug abuse issue, often require rehabilitation services tailor-made to fulfill their specific needs and problems. Many of these problems are physical in nature, due to the fact that substance abusers with HIV/AIDS rarely look after themselves and take the proper medicines they need to maintain their health. Consequently, they arrive to treatment in very poor health and this will have to be addressed as a priority while also dealing with other important issues. Aside from the obvious requirement to provide medical solutions whilst in rehab, individuals with HIV/AIDS will also need to deal with more deeply rooted problems which prompted their alcohol or drug use. Very often, people have situations in their lives which are strictly environmental which may have caused them to use drugs or alcohol, including oppressive circumstances in their lives or damaging relationships. These are the concerns which rehab counselors will target as part of HIV/AIDS rehabilitation services.
