A group home for somebody who has tbeen involved with drug and alcohol abuse is a place which provides continual support and help for individuals in recovery. A group home is typically for troubled youth, but in addition there are group homes for those with a mental health disorder or who are encountering behavioral difficulties for example. Instead of sending people who are experiencing drug abusedrug use or recovering from drug abuse to an orphanage, asylum or any other similar place, a group home may help provide an acceptable environment to help sustain stability in their lives and still have counsel and assistance at their fingertips 24/7. People who reside in the group home could be involved in rehabilitation services while in residence, or could be taking actions to get their life set up outside of the group home in order to at some point live on their own not in the group home. For example, a troubled youth who has been in recovery or has recovered from substance abuse can work on getting their GED or acquire employment. A group home is not necessarily a long-term or permanent solution, but it's a viable short-term option for individuals who are attempting to get their lives back together.
