Offering gender-specific rehabilitation services has shown to be beneficial in situations where standard treatment settings have not meet expectations, including coping with situations in the women's life which are distinctive and distressing. Such issues may relate to sexual abuse, physical abuse, mental abuse, eating disorders, one's family and being a mother, or any other significant issues which are specific to women. Studies show that women also can become involved in substance abuse more readily than men, and are more vulnerable to sickness as a result of addiction problems than males consequently. Due to obligations in the home, women also tend to postpone trying to find and undergoing treatment, a circumstance which can lead to disaster. Being mindful of this, rehab services for women are designed to ensure a women's needs are the concentration and priority. Much like coed rehabs, drug rehab programs which offer rehabilitation solutions to women help women through detoxification and withdrawal as a first step. Following this step, counselors help women focus on both basic and gender-specific problems which may have brought on their drug abuse. Women also utilize the constructive support from other female peers, and several programs that provide treatment services to women provide client beds for their young children.
