Individuals who want to maintain some flexibility in their lives can take advantage of an outpatient rehab if they need rehab for substance abuse. Outpatient rehab makes it possible for the rehabilitation client to participate in treatment services without the commitment one would normally have to consent to in an inpatient or residential drug and alcohol rehab center. This doesn't always work in the rehab client's favor however, specifically those clients who need to address significant drug abuse problems. So even though an outpatient rehab might appear to be an opportune option, it isn't for everybody. People who do choose an outpatient rehab will generally take part in meetings and take part in counseling and rehabilitation services on a part-time basis daily or several days weekly. This is very helpful for those who have recently completed an even more comprehensive inpatient or residential program as an effective aftercare or maintenance step, or for someone with just a brief history of drug abuse which is usually a really small number of clients. For someone with more serious drug abuse and dependency problems, inpatient or residential alcohol and drug rehab centers which provide treatment over a long-term basis will probably be the more advantageous rehab option.
